Keel Me

The Bottom Keel

Remember the red keel is on the left. The top side length after the double folding the front edge should be trimmed to 34.25" finished.

  • 1/4" double fold the front and bottom edges.
  • Cut just a small piece with both sides folded as pictured below for the bridle straps.

  • Start by cutting two triangle from a 4 " square.
  • The triangle is not a perfect triangle! Cut to fit the inside your folds.

  • Cut two 4" baste tape pieces and stick on the keel.
  • Then stick the triangle on that

  • Place dots at the 3", 4" and 5 " marks on your 8" bridle straps.

  • Stick on your 4oz dacron black triangle.
  • Now cut two more 4" pieces of baste tape and stick that on to fasten bridle strap.
  • Position strap so dot is 1/8" back from tip.

  • Now fold the strap so the end dot lines up over the other end dot.

  • Sew using a guide and a small zig zag stitch.

After you zigzag all around the double fold. Reset to straight stitch and start at the tip and go around the black triangle once. .

The finished product should look nice and neat. No reason to double stitch as that can actually weaken your material. We do make a couple extra stitches during back tacking right at the tip which should be backed by the 4 oz dacron triangle.
