Superlight works ok for SUP .. for round people it's hard to stay upright on a longboard in any wave and chop and or boat wake. An old Prodigy or RS:X is easy to SUP on in general .. but a bit hard to move at good speed if going against heavy chop. If you want an old windsurfer board for SUP use that works .. find a Wayler .. usually they can be found at garage sales and on Craigslist for cheap. But .. also know they weigh in .. like at 50lbs so hard to lift around by yourself. They are like near 13' long with a huge volume in a V-bowed shaped nose.

I started racing a Superlight on the lakes of Minneapolis in '86. It was stolen but I replaced it with the '89 model which just had minor changes. That '89 is still a great and fun board. I replaced the mast foot in '03 and got a never before used 6.3 Progress Line replacement sail off eBay in '09. I had it on a full plane on Hoover Res. in Columbus, OH last week. It outran some much newer equipment with bigger rigs. The old girl really screems! I sail it at least once a week and still love it.

Does anybody know a source for the spring loaded buttons which hold the superlite dagger boards in place? We have tried to find old dagger boards with intact buttons but with no results.

Thanks Scott.

Sorry I start asking this in wrong discussion group, right I quess is rigging area.

I do have Comp 510 mast (80cm). Just bought trim hook with pulley, to help downhauling into that min. 515 or over.

I'll been have a info that use track in midle. But it seems that in my weight, board back goes to down. I test track somewhere 1/3 back from front (10 - 12 knots), it helps to have board flat.

Of course it depend where surffer stand. Is it right to stand in board border with both legs, where most of those strap places are, or be front leg in border and rear leg back and body lay down also more back?

Same time I wrote above I understand that, my stand position might be wrong. Maybe in very heavy wind and waves, that back stand is ok.

I'll check these tips next weekend, and let you know my experience.

Risto,

The Comp 8.5 sail is very tunable .. it does require the 510 mast or a good 520 cut down 3 inches for it to rig right.
For max power in light wind condition just downhaul so you still have light wrinkles in sail ... in heavy wind downhaul a bunch and top flops off loosing power .. the sail will get flat and you'll loose upwind power but at least you'll be able to handle the heavy air better .. you'll need to adjust outhaul whenever varying downhaul.

In general track back, centerboard up when reaching so you can get in the straps .. for best upwind angle keep track forward and centerboard down with front foot in beating strap .. with practice you can even rail board up a bit in strong winds by lifting the front leg a bit and pointing the back toes down.

Speed ??? l you got to have some nice breeze blowing with that board .. to plane .. won't plane as quick as a good long board like an Equipe. But it has other advantages .. turns quick .. you never fall in .. can reach downwind at a sharper angle. In sub-plane conditions Prodigy is faster and more pumpable than a longboard.

In general .. once on a plane .. keep board flat .. in wind lulls .. try to unload weight onto the boom to keep board on plane.

Hello from Finland.

Just bought used Mistral Prodigy Comp 8.5 package (moving from old Alpha longboard), and tried to found a those basic setup info, could you please help me out.

I'm those self learned surffer guys (95kg), who would like to learn more, for to enjoy my raceboard riding in different wind conditions. I'm riding in lake, where wind could be go to 20 knots, but mostly 10 and under.

-What are right mast track positions in different winds, to get board planing - to get more speed

-What is best and powerfull wind angle to use to ride.

Hope that somebody could help me out, because I could not found any other active Prodigy group site.

Thanks

"murrays marine" has the "mini track mast foot" 4 dollars..It has the exact same pin as for Superlight....it will fit.

1. Google "murrays marine
2. go to "products"
3. type in "mini track mast foot"
4. send 4 dollars plus s/h

Hey there!
I was wondering if you are willing to make and sell me a pin!
I'm in Ottawa but I just lost the pin to my windsurfer and have no idea where to get another since the board is so old.
Cheers

Sounds like fun times!
Try a product called mclube sailcoat on the centerboard gasket + foil for better rotation.

Scott,
Well said. I think it's also worth mentioning that races provide the framework to meet new people, sharpen your sailing skills and a great reason to get out & explore new places.
Secondly, with a longboard you know you're going to go sailing, no matter what the wind; no chasing or waiting for wind.
And Scott, by the way I have new Windsurfer One Designs that I'll be chartering out for regattas-maybe I can get you to come sail one!

The first board i owned was a 1988 Mistral Superlight, still have it and sail it. It is the best light wind board ever made
10mph and below nothing can touch it. I can be on a plane in 12 mph with a gaastra 8.5 racefoil. I sail it from 3-25 mph wind. in 25 mph I used a 5.3 progress line, the progress line sails believe it or not were similar to the Sailworks retro. if you find one in good condition,BUY IT.learn to sail it,you will find that it is an amazing board!!
Although a great light wind board, this board is fast1!
