US-H - Scott Haas
Searching for the Amoka Gust

When there is good wind you'll likely find the AMOKA man out at (MBSP) Maumee Bay State Park. Look for the dark blue Dodge Caravan - stop by and talk windsurfing or kites.

What is an Amoka?(pronounced A-moe-ka`) The legendary Amoka winds or gusts are found throughout the Great Lakes. Indians who traveled by birch canoe hunted out these the gust streams to speed their travel. The Amoka winds can be found about one mile offshore and blow always parallel to the shoreline.

Windsurfing credentials:

Scott has been actively windsurfing since 1986, written several articles for windsurfing journals, has helped organized local windsurfing events and competed in so many regatta that he has lost count of the number of them. Scott is also is a US Sailing Certified Instructor for Level I windsurfing instruction.

Power Kiting:
Scott started power traction kiting in1998 and got hooked for good after a trip to the SBBB on Ivanpah Dry Lake. Scott even has dabbled in building his own kites and now has several large home made sled kites which enables him to put on his own mini kite show.

Kiting boarding:
Scott still is a rookie at kite boarding riding and sticks to a directional board and flys safely staying on the water's surface.

Scott circuit racing at SBBB 2002, Primm NV
