Searching for the Amoka Gust
When there is good wind you'll likely find the AMOKA man out
at (MBSP) Maumee Bay State Park. Look
for the dark blue Dodge Caravan - stop by and talk windsurfing
or kites.
What is an Amoka?(pronounced A-moe-ka`) The legendary Amoka
winds or gusts are found throughout the Great Lakes. Indians
who traveled by birch canoe hunted out these the gust streams
to speed their travel. The Amoka winds can be found about one
mile offshore and blow always parallel to the shoreline.
