The 2008 Notice of Race is now available here, 2008 NOR in .doc format.

General Information

The Toledo Area Boardsailing Association organizes and hosts the Toledo Windsurfing Championships held at Maumee Bay State Park Oregon Ohio which is located just a few miles east of Toledo on Lake Erie. The event is usually held the first weekend after the Memorial Monday Holiday day and is one of the largest Midwest events of the season. Besides the racing a great party on Saturday evening is organized for competitors and guests.

For hotel lodge and camp site reservations visit the park Web site, additionally there are hotels located on Route 2 / Navarre Ave within 8 miles of the park. If you plan to camp it is best to reserve sites online several weeks or more ahead of time. As they like you to reserve two nights on the weekend we suggest you considering arriving Friday. Also it is fun to camp in a group so we suggest trying to get sites numbered in the ranges 184-188 and 208-211. These sites are close to a restroom shower facility.

If you've never raced before don't worry as the Sport Fleet sails a shorter course than the hot-shots in the A-Fleet. Racing is fun and first timers are always welcomed!

Show up early Saturday morning around 8:30AM and get yourself registered and rigged up. The first race gun is usually around 11:30 on Saturday morning. The entry fee includes lunches and a Saturday evening party. We suggest you number your sails beforehand with 9" or higher letters and or numbers on the starboard (right hand forward) side of the sail. If you don't have a number bring some tape. Usually someone will have a few numbers and letters for sale.

Venue

The event is held at Maumee Bay State Park which is located just a few miles from Toledo on the south west corner of Lake Erie. Weather conditions can vary greatly in early June however it is not uncommon to be sailing in just a shorty and enjoying 80 degree temperatures by Memorial Day Weekend in northwest Ohio. However it is advisable to be prepared for cool conditions so bring everything you got.

Swapping

Notice to windsurfer want-a-bees or locals looking for more gear. At this event there are usually several competitors selling used gear ranging from complete outfits to just a board or sail. Please note this is not a swap meet! If you're selling, we really hope you will be racing also. So if you are in the area and interested in finding a nice deal get out there Saturday afternoon. Usually Sat lunch break - around 1:30-2:30 is a good time. On Sunday racing finishes up usually by 1:00 with award presentations around 2:30.

2007 Regatta

The sun rises over the beach area at Maumee Bay State Park on Lake Erie, June 2, 2007 as event organizers prepare the registration and lunch complex.

Windsurfers rig up Saturday morning greeted by the sun and warm temps.

RSX racer and Olympic hopeful from Minnesota rigs up.

Below Neil and friend register Cortney. Besides racing, entrants got a t-shirt, 2 lunches, Sat evening party, class award trophies and a Sunday raffle before the awards presentation was held. Yours truly won a really nice Dakine Blast harness seat with bar!

Dell, Joe and Dave discuss what to drink at the Sat. evening party.

I had time to get the Kaptain flowform flying early Sat. morning. The grass area you back your vehicles up to makes our Maumee Bay State Park here one of the nicest locations around to windsurf from.

Scott's 1977 Serro Scotty manned the beach overnight guarding boards and sails left rigged up for Sundays races.

Dick Tillman rigs up his Prodigy sail.

Windsurfers gather for the skippers meeting.

The metal sun shelter setting on the beach was built with funds donated from TABA. Thanks to all the competitors that have raced in the previous events as your registration fees helped to pay for the shelter.
